2011 Ride of Silence – Scully’s Restaurant in FWB - Wed., May 18th – 6:00 p.m.

The Ride of Silence is a national event to honor bicyclists who have been injured or killed and to raise awareness of bicyclists on the road.  The Ride of Silence will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a three mile ride through Fort Walton Beach in a funeral procession style to honor fallen bicyclists.

    Thank you for supporting this ride. This was the first time I rode in it – my husband, Roger Grooters was on a cross country ride from San Diego, CA to Jacksonville, FL, he rode 100 miles per day, for 2300 miles. He was doing this ride to raise awareness and funds for victims of the Gulf Coast Oil Spill. Oct 6, 2010 he was struck and killed on Hwy 20 by Ebro, FL – 300 miles short of his finish. The driver of the pickup was on a cell phone, writing a note – he did not even know what he hit!
    It was a very moving ride and hopefully brings awareness to drivers.
