Thanksgiving Trip – Looking for suggestions

My girlfriend and I are headed to Destin for Thanksgiving this year.  We will be staying Thursday – Monday on the beach.  We are bringing the bikes in the hopes of doing some rides while in town.  I have looked through your site and found some helpful information about some suggested routes and some group rides, however, I was unable to see the Google Maps links with the maps of some of your suggested routes.

We are avid cyclists (enthusiasts, might be a better description) from Asheville, NC looking to ride every day while we are in town.  Ideally we would like to bike in the morning, and relax with drinks and good food in the afternoon.  Knowing that most of the group rides are occurring on the weekends, and the fact that I was not able to see the map routes, would someone be interested in recommending a couple of routes for a fun-loving couple from the mountains?  :-)

We are up for just about anything, but preferably 30 – 60 miles per day.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.  Also, I have not locked up a place to stay yet, so if you there are advantages for riders / fun seekers to stay in Destin vs Ft. Walton vs Mirimar Beach, guidance would be awesome!

Thanks in advance for the help!

John,

One suggestion is to join us on our Thanksgiving Day ride. It is 27 or 38 miles.

Here is a link to find the starting area:

Our club ride on next Saturday is fairly scenic, albeit on the north side of the county (not near the gulf). Its about 60 miles.

I might also suggest riding along hwy 30A in South Walton County, but watch for lots of holiday traffic.

I'd also suggest staying somewhere that is on the beach. Destin and Sandestin are more in the center of activity and Ft Walton Beach (Okaloosa Island) is probably a little cheaper and slightly closer to our club rides.

If you have more questions, call me.
